New Montgomery County Judge Takes Pay Cut, As Promised

County commissioners approved a request to trim County Judge Mark Keough's salary. Now he makes less than the county commissioners.

CONROE, TX — Barely a week after he was officially sworn in, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough has already made good on his campaign promise to cut his salary.

On Tuesday, the Montgomery County Commissioner’s Court approved a request to cut Keough’s salary from $174,778 to $154,774, a savings of nearly 12 percent, the Conroe Courier reported.

Keough, who ran on the promise of reducing his salary at the first court meeting, also reduced his chief of staff’s salary by about the same margin.

The action means that the four county commissioners now make about $10,000 more that Keough. According to the Courier, Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley and Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack have both indicated they would not support a salary reduction for themselves.
