Montgomery County Targeted by More Phone Scammers
Conroe and Montgomery County residents have been targeted by phone scammers.

Conroe, TX -- Reports have surfaced that Montgomery County residents are being targeted by a phone scammer, or scammers, pretending to be a representative of a major credit card company.
On June 28, The Montgomery County Police Reporter posted a screenshot of a text message from an area resident claiming that he or she received a phone call from someone claiming to be a representative from Visa.

The caller said that the mark's credit card had been used in India to run up a $600 tab 15 minutes before the phone call and that the mark needed to be provide his or her card number to clear things up.

The mark told the scammer that he or she was going to cancel the card. A quick phone call to Visa confirmed that there had been no charge for $600.
The potential victim also told the Montgomery Police Reporter that the scammer knew his or her address, a common refrain from people who have been targeted by phone scammers.
The con man will often mention their victim's address to make the scam seem more legit, and the inclusion of address information almost always makes the victim concerned.
Reports of phone scams have been proliferating throughout the Houston area for weeks. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office both issued warnings about the jury duty scam.
