Police Seize Files From Archdiocese HQ In Houston

Officials are combing through documents at the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese for evidence related to the Catholic Church sex scandal.

HOUSTON — Investigators with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, the Texas Rangers and the Conroe Police raided the downtown offices of the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese on Wednesday morning.

Law enforcement officials served search warrants for documents and information related to the Catholic Church sex scandal.

The Galveston-Houston Archdiocese released a statement, which read:

In September, Father Manuel La Rosa-Lopez who was assigned to the St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Richmond, was charged with four counts of indecency with a child while he was assigned to the Sacred Heart Church in Conroe in the late 1990s and early 2000.

La Rosa-Lopez turned himself in at the Montgomery County Jail and was later released on bond.

La Rosa-Lopez, who was accused by two men and a woman, appeared in court in early October, and has a scheduled court date in January 2019.

Cardinal Daniel Di Nardo, who leads the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese, has said the archdiocese was aware of the abuses and took corrective action against La Rosa-Lopez when the incidents were reported.
