Summer Moon Coffee Coming To Conroe This Weekend

CONROE, TX — Angie Kober is an avid coffee drinker, so when Summer Moon Coffee came knocking, she was all in.

Kober is the owner of Summer Moon Coffee’s newest location in Conroe, which is holding its grand opening Saturday morning. Kober, who often receives coffee recommendations from friends and family, was drawn to the brand when she first tried the Austin-based company’s oak-roasted coffee for the first time several years ago.

"I took a sip, and I was like, 'Wow, this is special,'" Kober said. "I didn’t know a lot about the company. All I knew was I was a raving fan of the product. At that point, I chalked it up to the fact it would be one of my treats I got to get when I came to the Austin market to visit and left it at that. Who knew that we would be opening our own here?"

Last year, she heard from a friend that the company was looking to franchise stores in the Houston area, so she jumped at the opportunity. It was a perfect pairing of her love of coffee and business experience, which includes serving in various roles helping her husband, Eddie Kober, run a pair of Chick-fil-A franchises and several years in the real estate industry.

It kicks off in earnest Saturday at the grand opening of her new franchise, located at 449 S. Loop 336 West Suite 100 in Conroe. The opening is from 7 a.m. to noon, and the first 50 guests will receive a Summer Moon "swag bag." There also will be plenty of giveaways and discounts, with one lucky winner getting a year supply of coffee.

All guests at the grand opening will get to try samples of the company’s oak-roasted coffee and signature Moon Milk sweet cream, which is also available with dairy-free milks. According to the company’s website, Summer Moon coffee beans are roasted in Austin using wood-fired brick ovens, the same process as 19th century coffee masters.

"They do everything with the senses — sight, sound, smell — and they oak-roast these beans in batches," Kober said. "That process makes such a smooth, fantastic, easy-drinking coffee all by itself. They also made our Moon Milk sweet cream, and … you pair those together, and it’s magic. There’s nothing like it."

Summer Moon’s Conroe location will be the company’s fourth location in Greater Houston, following openings in Friendswood, Katy and Missouri City. Among Summer Moon’s 30 locations are stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, El Paso, Kansas City and Oklahoma City metros. Kober wants to continue growing Summer Moon in the Houston area and is looking at sites in The Woodlands and Huntsville.

The Conroe location will be open every day, with weekday hours of 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekend hours of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. beginning Saturday.
