Conroe ISD student Alex Hant has been named one of just 20 East Texas recipients of the American Furniture Warehouse and KPRC2 News Scholarship, per The Caledonian. This $2,500 award honors seniors who demonstrate leadership, academic success, and a deep commitment to their communities—qualities that have defined Alex’s high school experience.

Alex is a standout member of The Woodlands High School’s nationally competitive Speech and Debate team. She has held nearly every leadership role in the program and qualified for Speech and Debate nationals twice. She also leads the school’s National Honor Society, serves as a state qualifier in both HOSA and DECA, and tutors students of all ages through her role at Mathnasium of The Woodlands.

Her extensive advocacy work includes founding and leading Women in Debate, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to competitive debate for gender minority and low-income students. She also interned for three summers in Montgomery County’s legal and judicial offices and represented Texas at American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation.

Despite growing up under challenging circumstances, Alex has built an exceptional academic and extracurricular résumé. Her teachers describe her as one of the most extraordinary students they’ve ever taught. This fall, she will attend Dartmouth College, where she plans to double major in Government and Journalism with a minor in Public Policy.

Through all her achievements, Alex hopes to inspire other students facing adversity to pursue their goals with resilience and determination.

The future is certainly looking bright in Conroe-Montgomery County! If you know another Star Student making an impact, nominate them today to be featured on Patch!
