Conroe reverses $1,300 permit fee for markets and other events with street closures, for now (houstonchronicle.com) — Conroe has hit pause on a steep jump in permit fees for events that close streets, after pushback from downtown business owners and a popular petition. City leaders agree the old $35 fee is too low and will bring back a new, likely tiered, fee schedule in January. For now, organizers get a reprieve while the city reworks the costs.
   

2. Conroe will buy 14 new police vehicles and 2 drones after forceful prodding by Mayor Coon (houstonchronicle.com) — Conroe officials have approved spending about $1 million on 14 new police SUVs and two drones to replace aging vehicles and boost response capabilities. The SUVs will come from the city’s vehicle replacement fund, while the drones use federal seized-asset money, with ongoing maintenance costs around $67,000 a year. City leaders say the upgrades are needed to handle rising call volumes.
   

3. The Woodlands Township Board meets to discuss Public-Private Golf Complex, Bike Lane Improvements, and potential new Cell Tower (hellowoodlands.com) — Decisions affecting Conroe’s shared transit system with The Woodlands moved forward as township directors reappointed their representative to the joint Urbanized Area Transit Advisory Committee overseeing federal funds for both communities. The wide-ranging meeting also advanced new bike lane safety work, major Alden Bridge Sports Park renovations, a proposed public‑private golf complex, and efforts to improve cellular coverage and law enforcement support across south Montgomery County.
   

4. Texas' Mega High Schools Keep Getting Bigger (thebeatdfw.com) — Conroe High School now ranks among the largest in Texas, with more than 5,300 students, as suburban campuses swell into small-town-sized “mega schools.” A new UIL enrollment snapshot shows Conroe and nearby The Woodlands joining giants like Allen and Plano in the 6A spotlight, reflecting rapid population growth around Houston.
   

5. Huntsville, Conroe & the Statue of Young Sam Houston (itemonline.com) — Conroe gets a nod in a historical look at young Sam Houston’s early life and the people from both Huntsville and Conroe who later helped honor his sense of destiny. The story traces how his classical reading and frustration with small-town work led him to live among the Cherokee in Tennessee, setting the stage for his Texas legacy.
