Here are the top three stories in Corpus Christi today:

  1. The House of Rock in Corpus Christi hosted the kickoff event for the annual Corpus Christi 7-Day Film Festival on Wednesday, where participating teams have a week to write, shoot, and edit a complete film. Each team must incorporate specific essential items, such as a prop, line of dialogue, character name, and a surprise item, to ensure they adhere to the time frame. The films will be submitted by Jul. 12, judged by a panel, and eventually screened at Alamo Drafthouse on Sep. 3, followed by an awards ceremony at the House of Rock. (KRIS 6 News Corpus Christi)
  2. On Jul. 5, The Salvation Army of the Coastal Bend distributed 150 box fans to provide relief from the summer heat and help reduce electricity bills for those without proper air conditioning. The initiative aims to keep people cool during hot days. Home health provider Linda José expressed gratitude for the fans, highlighting the importance of this assistance for the elderly who often lack fans or air conditioning. The Salvation Army is prepared to hold additional fan distributions if the need arises, as they did last year. (KIIITV.com)
  3. Residents of nearby Portland are excited about the potential redesign of Violet Andrews Park, a popular shoreline park known for its ideal conditions for water sports. The city, along with input from the wind sport community and area residents, received three design options from engineering firm Anchor QEA LLC. The designs feature various upgrades and improvements, including multiple access points to the water, upgraded amenities, walking trails, and environmental education pathways. A second public input meeting will be held in July before presenting the updated designs to the city council in mid-August. (KRIS 6 News Corpus Christi)
