Here are the top three stories today in Corpus Christi:
- Earlier this year, the Planning Commission and Staff proposed rezoning in Northwest Corpus Christi to convert the 1984 Corpus Christi Party Hotel into a workforce housing apartment complex. Located on 910 Corn Products Road, the hotel has been there for quite some time, but city leaders are discussing both conversion and increasing the permit to a maximum density of 240 units, which was requested by the Planning Commission and Staff as well. There was a Council Meeting on Tuesday, Jun. 27; however, the news of that meeting has not been yet released. (KRIS 6 News Corpus Christi)
- On Monday, Jun. 26, first responders from Corpus Christi and Flour Bluff Fire Departments were called to extinguish a brush fire that broke out near Cimarron and Legacy Point. CCFD Battalion Chief Michael Gilley is very concerned about the dangerous heat that is currently surrounding Texas, and he stressed the importance of remaining hydrated — particularly for fire crews that are working 24-hour days. The fire crew was able to get this fire extinguished, and everyone remained safe at the scene. (KIIITV.com)
- Around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jun. 24, Chacho's Tacos on Ayers St. was victim to a burglary. Mary Gutierrez, one of the owners, reported the incident on their Facebook page stating that the restaurant had been destroyed along with hundreds of dollars missing. There have been no arrests at this moment; however, individuals with information should contact Crimestoppers immediately by calling 888-TIPS. (KRIS 6 News Corpus Christi)
