Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:
- An official investigation is now underway following the death of a 19-year-old who was killed on the job at a Dallas ISD construction site. The victim, Boston Monett, died while helping construct the new Everette Lee DeGolyer Elementary School, according to the Dallas Police Department (DPD). Monett's parents and their lawyers are now investigating independently, following delays in information and heavily redacted reports from the DPD. (WFAA)
- A $17 million lottery ticket was sold in Dallas on Wednesday evening. The Texas Lottery confirmed the ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven on Campbell Road in Far North Dallas. The winner matched all six numbers and has not been identified yet. All Lottery winners have 180 days to claim their winnings. (FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth)
- Following the suicide of a Dallas Police officer last week, the DPD has bolstered its Wellness Unit efforts aimed at improving officers' mental health. The Wellness Unit, which began last year, checks in on officers after incidents such as shootings. These check-ins can be conducted over the phone or in person, and afterward, officers and their families can seek counseling through the department. (Dallas Observer)
