Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:
- Police are currently investigating a shooting in South Dallas that occurred early Friday morning, leaving one dead and one wounded. Officers responded to a call at the 2700 block of Swanson Street, near Canal Street, and found that two men had been shot while sitting inside a parked car. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was stabilized at a nearby hospital. The investigation is ongoing, and no potential suspects have been named. (The Dallas Morning News)
- Dallas Animal Services has proposed plans for a new shelter facility featuring a modern, humane design. The proposed facility will cost $114 million and is being folded into the city's $1 billion city bond election in May 2024. The proposed compound would total 120,000 square feet, doubling the footprint of the current location. The space would be used for a larger in-house clinic, more room for visitors, and space for holding classes and seminars on animal care. (CultureMap Dallas)
- Police found a tiger when investigating a potential rooster and dog fighting ring in Oak Cliff yesterday. Following a search warrant, the Dallas Animal Cruelty Unit found a tiger and arranged for its transfer to the Dallas Zoo for evaluation. DPD also said that over 200 roosters were found on the property, in addition to dogs and chickens. (WFAA.com)
