City of Forney introduces four-day workweek

Forney, Texas - In a strategic policy adjustment, the Forney City Council has approved a shift to a four-day workweek, beginning this October. This decision alters the city's traditional operating hours to 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

This change serves two primary purposes, as articulated by city officials. Firstly, it aims to improve accessibility and convenience for residents in their interactions with city services. Secondly, it seeks to provide a more balanced and flexible working environment for municipal staff.

"Our city council is dedicated to fostering a positive workplace culture for city employees. We view the transition to a four-day workweek as a creative method to enhance convenience and accessibility for our residents. This shift also presents a budget-neutral strategy to maintain competitiveness, enhance recruitment, and bolster retention," Mayor Jason Roberson stated.

"In addition, there are extra advantages like potential savings in utility and fuel expenses."

Departments in Forney transitioning to the four-day workweek, operating from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday and closed on Friday, include:

• City Hall (Utility Billing)

• Community Development/Engineering/Public Works

• Economic Development

• Parks and Recreation Administration

• Municipal Court

• Police Administration

• Fire Administration

It's important to highlight that this restructuring will not affect the city's vital emergency on-call services, which include the police, fire, and public works departments. These essential units will continue their 24/7 service schedule, ensuring the community has continuous access to crucial services.

Furthermore, the city confirmed that virtual platforms for civic activities will stay consistent. As such, residents will still have complete access to various online services, such as paying water bills, applying for permits, or reporting concerns requiring city attention.
