Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:

  1. Former President George W. Bush observed a moment of silence on Monday at his presidential library in Dallas to mark the 22nd anniversary of the Sep. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that claimed 2,977 lives. Bush, who was president during the attacks, briefly joined museum guests at the George W. Bush Presidential Center for the solemn occasion. He expressed gratitude for the rescue efforts and paid tribute to the victims and their families before bowing his head for about 20 seconds during the moment of silence. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  2. A recent study by the Chamber of Commerce revealed that Dallas has the third-highest percentage of working seniors aged 65 and above in the United States. Approximately 30.3 percent of Dallas seniors, or over 44,300 individuals, continue to be employed out of a total senior population of 146,297. The study examined data from 170 of the most populous U.S. cities and suggests that factors like the cost of living and personal circumstances are contributing to a trend of seniors "unretiring" in the Dallas-Fort Worth workforce. 3. A new pedestrian bridge, the Northaven Trail Bridge, has been installed over U.S. Highway 75/Central Expressway in North Dallas, providing improved accessibility to scenic areas for cyclists, runners, and pedestrians. The bridge, supported by 64 steel cables, spans the freeway and connects the Northaven Trail on the west side to several trails on the east side, including White Rock Creek and Cottonwood Creek. While there is no specific opening date yet, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for mid to late October, and the $9.3 million project is primarily funded by the City of Dallas and Dallas County. From my notebook:

  • The Dallas Police Department is seeking public help in finding Juan Manzano, a 20-year-old Hispanic male, who went missing on Sep. 10 in the 9700 block of Kerrville Street and may be in a confused state and in need of assistance; he was last seen wearing a black t-shirt with gray lettering and gray sweatpants. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police department at 911 or (214) 671-4268. (Dallas Police Department via Facebook)
  • Regines Lounge, a new swanky speakeasy has opened next to Maison Chinoise in Uptown Dallas. The lounge features lavish decor, live entertainment, and a menu with sushi, sashimi, and premium caviar, along with classic cocktails and table service. Access to Regines involves secret passageways from Maison Chinoise and an unidentified entrance from the parking lot. (CultureMap Dallas)
