Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:
- A new 450-acre district in North Dallas is now home to a newly launched workforce center, aiming to provide both jobs and better futures for residents. The first-of-its-kind American Job Center is located in the heart of the Dallas International District and remains a milestone in the ongoing transformation of the former Valley-View Galleria area. The new facility will cement Dallas as a global city of innovation, inviting both domestic and foreign-born residents to participate in its thriving economy. (dallasinnovates.com)
- Directional signs will soon be installed along White Rock Lake Trail in the next three months, after several delays. Eleven graffiti-proof, double-sided directional signs will be installed around the park to identify key landmarks and amenities and to show trail users the distances between landmarks. The project is the result of a years-long collaboration between the White Rock Lake Foundation and the Dallas Running Club. (Lakewood/East Dallas Advocate)
- Attention stargazers: the Perseid meteor shower - the biggest meteor shower of the year - will be at its most visible state the night of Saturday, Aug. 12 until the early morning of Sunday, Aug. 13. Viewers will not need a telescope to see meteors that night, experts say, but the best viewing experiences will still be from a dark, unlit area of the city. Many Dallas-area state parks will host stargazing activities for community members and astronomy enthusiasts at Perseid's peak—click the link to learn more about the best places to view this rare meteor shower.
