Dallas, Texas - North Dallas will soon see an enhancement in pedestrian mobility with the upcoming opening of the Northaven Trail Bridge in October, as per Dallas Metro News.

This bridge is set to connect the North Central Expressway, linking the western part of the Northaven Trail to Cottonwood Creek and White Rock Creek trails on the east.

The bridge, measuring 201 feet, has been designed for both pedestrians and cyclists. This information is sourced from the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) online platform.

Construction of the bridge started in June 2021. By spring of the next year, the structure of the bridge was evident under TxDOT's supervision. TxDOT's spokesperson, Tony Hartzel, shared details about the project's timeline.

Ragle Construction Inc. took charge of building the bridge. The construction site was near the Conn’s Home Plus outlet, situated at the intersection of North Central Expressway and Royal Lane.

The bridge was placed over the expressway during a planned operation on September 9-10. As September comes to an end, TxDOT is finalizing the project, adding safety cables and refining the pathways to the trails.

The Northaven Trail Bridge project, with a budget of $9.3 million, receives its funding from Dallas County, the city of Dallas, and the North Central Texas Council of Governments. This financial information was given by Tony Hartzel.

Hartzel sees this bridge as more than just infrastructure. He described it as a “gateway and centerpiece” for north Dallas. It will benefit pedestrians and cyclists by providing recreational opportunities and solving transportation challenges.

Currently, those wishing to cross the North Central Expressway have to take a detour from Northaven Trail, leading to an underpass below the highway. This route poses challenges, as noted by Hartzel. The new pedestrian bridge aims to address this issue. Hartzel highlighted the local community's desire for this solution, viewing the bridge as a significant improvement for transportation options.

Hartzel stated that the exact inauguration date is yet to be determined. To mark the completion of the bridge, the nonprofit group 'Friends of the Northaven Trail' plans to organize a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
