Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:

  1. Dallas police are conducting an investigation into a shooting incident involving a police officer that occurred in Southeast Dallas on Wednesday. The incident happened near the Red Crown Inn along CF Hawn Freeway, and a portion of the scene has been taped off for investigation. As of now, no additional information has been released by the police, including details about injuries or the current situation, and the westbound service road is closed as of Aug. 2 as the investigation continues. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  2. Dallas Water Utilities is testing a novel approach to stormwater and floodplain management through a pilot project that employs goats for vegetation control. The goats, known for their effective foraging abilities, are being used in an area of East Dallas to clear vegetation in a creekbed, improving stormwater flow and reducing fire risks. The city is assessing the results with the goal of expanding this environmentally friendly program citywide, potentially replacing traditional methods involving chemicals and manual labor. (WFAA.com)
  3. A tanker truck carrying unleaded fuel overturned and caught fire after a crash on US-75 in nearby Plano, causing a vehicle fire that burned for at least eight hours as of Aug. 2. The crash involved three other vehicles, with two individuals sustaining injuries expected to recover. The Plano Fire Department managed the situation and waited for the flames to subside before cleanup due to safety concerns. (NBC 5 Dallas-Forth Worth)
