Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:

  1. Dallas City Councilmembers discussed the possibility of changing the parking code after recognizing Park(ing) Day, an event that repurposes parking spaces into public parks and community spaces. While some see the benefits of repurposing parking spaces to promote community engagement and reduce the demand for parking, others argue that more parking is needed, especially in popular areas like Bishop Arts. The debate highlights the different parking needs and challenges in different parts of the city. (WFAA.com)
  2. The historically significant White Rock Chapel, founded by former slaves in 1884 and known for its legacy of reconciliation, is facing an uncertain future as its owners, the Wesson family, seek to restore it and use it as a place of worship for people of all backgrounds. However, their plans have been met with opposition from neighbors in the surrounding area: A supermajority vote was required for their special use permit request, which failed by one vote. The Wessons, with the support of the First Liberty Institute, are now pushing for the Town of Addison to approve their request and preserve the chapel's rich history. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  3. The "Dallas Blue Hole," a TikTok-famous phenomenon, has been officially repaired by city officials after a chlorinated water leak into the Great Trinity Forest caused concern. Crews from Dallas Water Utilities repaired two leaks, which were found to be joint failures likely due to ground shifting. Cleanup and restoration efforts in the forest are now set to continue throughout the fall. (WFAA.com)
