Dallas Police $120 million tech upgrade includes drones, AI tools – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth (nbcdfw.com) — Dallas City Council has approved a more than $120 million technology upgrade for the Dallas Police Department, adding AI-powered body cameras, real-time language translation, and first-responder drones. Leaders say the tools should save officers hundreds of thousands of work hours and improve safety as the city prepares for events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
   

2. Dallas shifts DEI to "Drivers of Opportunity" amid federal funding pressure (cbsnews.com) — Dallas leaders have rebranded the city’s diversity, equity, and inclusion work as “Drivers of Opportunity” to keep racial equity efforts going while staying in line with new federal funding rules. Council members say the shift is about protecting money for projects, minority contracting, and small-business support, including a new DRIVE policy to expand opportunities for local vendors.
   

3. Dallas Enacts New Ban on E-Cigarette Use in Public Spaces (northdallasgazette.com) — Dallas has officially expanded its smoke-free ordinance to ban e-cigarettes, vaping, and cannabis use in all public indoor workplaces and spaces, effective today. City leaders and health advocates say the move will protect workers and residents from secondhand aerosol, require new public signage, and could especially help reduce youth vaping across Dallas.
   

4. H-E-B site wins council approval, clearing way for first store in Dallas (dallasnews.com) — Dallas City Council has approved zoning for a new H-E-B grocery store at Hillcrest Road and LBJ Freeway, paving the way for the chain’s first namesake location inside city limits. Neighbors are split over traffic and truck concerns, while supporters say the store will boost convenience and competition in North Dallas. The vote passed 14-1 after lengthy public testimony.
   

5. Holiday of hope: Dallas center supports children – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth (nbcdfw.com) — Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center is turning two large rooms into a free pop-up holiday store so caregivers of abused or traumatized children can choose donated gifts with dignity. The Holiday of Hope campaign, supported by local volunteers and wish-list donations, aims to ease financial stress and bring a sense of normalcy to more than 1,300 Dallas-area children.
