Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:

  1. California-based rideshare company Cruise is preparing to launch its fleet of self-driving cars for rider pickups in Dallas by early 2024. With nearly 400 self-driving vehicles already in operation in cities like Austin, Phoenix, and San Francisco, Cruise aims to target areas with high pedestrian traffic and active nightlife for expansion. However, critics raise concerns about the technology's readiness, citing previous incidents causing traffic jams and interruptions to emergency responses, leading to calls for more testing and regulations. 2. On Sunday, more than a thousand people from North Texas gathered to help find a bone marrow donor for 13-year-old Pike Peterson, a Dallas teen diagnosed with Leukemia after attending church camp. The community rallied around Pike and his family, with 12,244 individuals participating in a donor registration drive at his church, Park Cities Baptist. Although finding a matching donor is challenging due to the odds, the event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of bone marrow donation, as many participants could potentially save lives beyond Pike's case. 3. Dallas police responded to a welfare check call and discovered a deceased man and woman in what appeared to be a murder-suicide. The incident occurred in the 8800 block of Ferguson Road on Saturday, where officers found both individuals with gunshot wounds, leading investigators to conclude that the man shot the woman before taking his own life. The identities of the victims will not be disclosed publicly until their families have been informed, and anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Det. Abel Lopez. (WFAA.com)
