Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:

  1. Two people were injured in a shooting outside a Deep Ellum restaurant in Dallas, leading to one person being taken into custody on Wednesday. The incident occurred outside Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken and reportedly stemmed from a dispute involving a banned woman returning to the restaurant. Witnesses mentioned that the shooter fired at the restaurant's manager and another employee, resulting in injuries, and the restaurant will remain closed until Aug. 25, according to a notice on its door. 2. Officials have provided an update on Texas' transportation plans, noting the rapid progress of the Fort Worth-Dallas high-speed rail project. This project, overseen by the North Central Texas Council of Governments, is set to enter its environmental evaluation phase in September, with hopes of obtaining federal approvals by 2024. The project aims to address the growing transportation needs of the expanding metroplex and is strategically positioned parallel to the I-30 corridor, potentially attracting investment for its development. 3. Dallas-Fort Worth has experienced the highest construction rate of new apartments in the United States since the start of the pandemic building boom in 2020, with 76,660 new units constructed between 2020 and 2022, outpacing other major cities such as New York City. The region's strong job market, driven by the industrial and tech sectors, has fueled this construction spree, with Dallas and Fort Worth leading in new apartment units. Despite the impressive construction, the demand for housing in the Metroplex remains high, driven by population growth and expanding businesses, prompting the need for even more housing units.
