🌱 UT Dallas Researchers Receive $1M Grant + Man Killed At Gun Range

Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:
- Researchers at the University of Texas at Dallas received a $1 million grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop faster tools to simulate and predict the material performance of nanoscale computer chips. A team of five researchers is working to develop computational modeling tools that use artificial intelligence to do the work 1,000 times faster than supercomputers. The grant allows them to complete their research and create proof-of-concept materials design for their work. (The University of Texas at Dallas via Facebook)
- The Dallas County Medical Examiner has identified the man who was shot and killed at a gun range in Dallas on Friday evening. John "Trey" Shaunfield, 24, was killed in the shooting at DFW Gun Range after another person, who has not yet been identified, shot Shaunfield and then shot himself. Shaunfield was taken to the hospital, where he died, and the shooter is in critical condition. (FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth)
- The 19th annual Tulisoma South Dallas Book Fair returns this week, celebrating African American literacy and history. The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at the African American Museum in historic Fair Park. - Calling all artists: applications for Artscape 2024 at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden opened this week. The annual juried art exhibition will take place on Apr. 27 and 28, 2024 and will feature a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, 2-D and 3-D mixed media, photography, and more.
