📰 News we're reading

1. Over 90 Fort Worth firefighters respond to apartment fire Wednesday, officials say (dallasnews.com) — More than 90 Fort Worth firefighters and over 20 units battled a three-alarm apartment fire on Gazebo Lane Wednesday morning, displacing about 50 residents but causing no reported injuries. The blaze is under control, though strong winds complicated efforts, and officials are asking people to steer clear so first responders and the Red Cross can continue their work.

2. Low-cost garage parking on the horizon for Fort Worth art patrons as free spaces expire (fortworthreport.org) — If you frequent Bass Hall or other downtown theaters, expect a shift from free to low-cost garage parking starting as early as 2026, as Fort Worth’s downtown tax district launches a validation pilot. The program will cap most show-night parking at $5 in two key garages, aiming to keep arts attendance strong while easing the transition to market-rate parking.

3. $10 billion data center planned for southeast Fort Worth wants even more land (star-telegram.com) — Developers behind a planned $10 billion data center in southeast Fort Worth just won another rezoning recommendation, adding 42 acres along Anglin Drive to more than 400 acres already approved. The project, led by Fort Worth-based Black Mountain Power, still lacks a final site plan and faces strong pushback from nearby residents worried about impacts next to Weston Gardens and surrounding communities.

4. Fort Worth to spend $47.2M on road improvements in city's expanding far north (fortworthreport.org) — Fort Worth is putting $47.2 million into widening Avondale Haslet Road and adding sidewalks, signals, and water upgrades in the fast-growing far north. Work on the 2.5-mile stretch is expected to start in February, funded largely by city and county bonds. City leaders say the project is part of a broader push to ease chronic congestion and keep up with rapid development.

5. Fort Worth Convention Center Debuts Latest Expansion Phase (fwtx.com) — Fort Worth’s convention business is getting a major boost as city leaders celebrate completion of Phase I of the $95 million convention center expansion downtown, funded partly by hotel taxes and federal stimulus. The upgraded facility adds new entrances, food and beverage spaces, loading docks, and better pedestrian connections near the Water Gardens and Texas A&M Fort Worth, with a much larger Phase II planned through 2030.
