6 Charged In Federal Narcotics Sting That Left 2 Dead: Police

Houston Police have charged 6 men felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, officials said Friday.

HOUSTON — The Houston Police and the Harris County District Attorney's Office have charged six suspects who were arrested during a narcotics sting, resulting in the fatal shooting of an armed suspect by an Houston police officer on Wednesday.

Seven suspects were arrested at the scene. One of the men was questioned by investigators and released later Wednesday.

Each of the six suspects in custody is charged with felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in the 178th State District Court.

The identity of the deceased shooting suspect, 30, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The officer who shot and killed the suspect was identified as J. Seay, is a 12-year law enforcement veteran.

Officials said that the HPD SWAT team and agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration were conducting an operation at a building in the 7700 block of Harrisburg at about 10 p.m. Wednesday.

While SWAT officers were attempting to make an arrest, a suspect fired a handgun at least two times at the SWAT officers. One of the SWAT officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

A second suspect, 28, fled the scene in a vehicle and crashed nearby in the 100 block of East Navigation. he got out of the car and fled on foot, but was apprehended with the help of an HPD K-9 officer.

The suspect was taken back to the original scene where he complained of being unable to breathe and lost consciousness. HFD personnel and tactical medics immediately treated him on scene and took him to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His cause of death and identification are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The seven other suspects were taken into custody without further incident.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by HPD's Special Investigations Unit and Internal Affairs Division, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
