Nathan D'Amato, 46, is accused of having a wife in Michigan when he married a Cypress woman in April. Bigamy is a 2nd-degree felony.

HOUSTON, TX — A Montgomery County firefighter who was accused of bigamy by his new bride, made his first appearance in court on Monday.

A judge set Nathan D’Amato’s bail at $10,000 for the second degree felony charge, and faces between two to 20 years in prison if he is convicted.

D’Amato, 46, was arrested Monday evening on bigamy charges, and is accused of having at least two wives, and may have several other common-law relationships, officials said.

D’Amato’s wife contacted the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office on April 30 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Officials learned D’Amato has been married to a Michigan woman since 1998, and that the marriage was still valid.

Officials are investigating the claim of common-law relationships, which in Texas would also require a legal dissolution.
