Bank Tells Customers Who Got $100 Instead Of $20 To Keep It

A line of cars wound around a Bank of American ATM that mistakenly dispensed $100 instead of $20 for customers, witnesses told police.

HOUSTON — A social media frenzy that sent Bank of America customers to a neighborhood ATM that mistakenly spit out $100 bills instead of $20 paid off for those lucky customers. Bank officials said Monday those customers can keep the cash, so Merry Christmas.

The frenzy erupted at about 11 p.m. Sunday when a customer went to the Bank of America ATM at FM 1960 and Interstate 45 to withdraw $20.

However, the customer said he received a $100 instead. The customer posted the incident, which caused a bit of a stir, and before anyone knew it there were cars lined up for a chance at free cash and even a dust up or two erupting.

The incident went on for several hours, with police being called to the area to disperse the crowd and guard the ATM until it was deactivated.

Initially, there were reports that those customers would be charged, even though it was a mistake and a malfunction.
