1. Houston area school districts are offering bonuses as incentives for recruitment and retention amid shortages exacerbated by COVID-19. The President of the Houston Federation of Teachers says small bonuses simply aren't enough, citing salary gaps compared to other areas in Texas. (Fox 26 Houston)

2. Teenager Frank DeLeon Jr., accused of shooting and killing his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend Diamond Alvarez in her southwest Houston neighborhood last week was released from custody on a $250,000 bond. DeLeon was in a relationship with Alvarez and another woman. DeLeon and Alvarez met about the other woman before the incident, investigators said. (Houston Patch)
3. Houston police are searching for a suspect who they say shot and killed a man outside of an apartment complex near the North Freeway on Wednesday night. Authorities believe the suspect fled in a black Chrysler or Impala sedan. (Click2Houston)
4. Christopher Martin Gallery in Houston is previewing to the public on Saturday, January 22nd from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 2625 Colquitt Street in Upper Kirby’s Gallery Row. Martin established his first studio in Dallas in 1995 and is known for gilded glass work. (CultureMap Houston)
5. CoHousing Houston has started construction on a 33-unit residential community at 114 Delmar. The community focuses on a communal living arrangement with shared spaces including community kitchens and gardens. Residents are expected to move in by 2023. (Houston Chronicle)

- After threatening to cut off fuel to roughly a third of the power plants owned by Texas’ biggest power generator, a major pipeline company said Thursday it will continue selling natural gas to the plants through the end of March. (KHOU 11)
