Ex-Preacher Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison For Embezzling $800K
Jerrell Altic pleaded guilty on Monday to stealing more than $800K from Houston's First Baptist Church over a span of six years.
HOUSTON — A former minister accused of stealing more than $800,000 from Houston’s First Baptist Church will spend the next 10 years behind bars.
Jerrelll Altic, 40, entered a guilty plea on Monday morning and sentenced to prison by state District Judge Nikita Harmon.
Altic, who’d been the missions pastor, embezzled the money over a span of six years, paying for lavish overseas trips for he and his family, and financing his doctorate studies.

Prosecutors said church leaders discovered the financial discrepancy in November 2017 and confronted Altic, who immediately resigned.

A Harris County grand jury indicted Altic in December 2018.
