Harmony Public Schools Houston North District will welcome 28 robotics teams from across the Houston region on Dec. 13, 2025, as it hosts its first-ever VEX IQ Robotics Competition. The event will take place at Harmony Science Academy-City Place, 2600 Spring Stuebner Rd., with matches beginning at 9 a.m.

Students from elementary and middle school programs will put their engineering and coding skills to the test as they guide robots through teamwork and skills-based challenges. The VEX IQ Mix & Match competition is played on a 6-by-8-foot field where paired teams compete in 60-second matches to score points collaboratively. Students also take part in individual Robot Skills Challenges, which include both driver-controlled rounds and autonomous coding tasks.

District STEM coach Yilmaz Kahraman said the event represents more than just a contest. “VEX IQ is more than a competition; it’s an opportunity for our students to develop the technical and problem-solving skills they need for the future,” Kahraman said. “We’re proud to guide them as they take on challenges that prepare them for advanced STEM pathways.”
