Inmate Dies in Harris County Jail
Vincent Dwayne Young was found during a visual cell check. This incident is being thoroughly investigated for violations of policy and law.

HOUSTON, TX -- An inmate who was in the custody of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office was found head in his jail cell during a routine visual check on Monday.
Vincent Dwayne Young, 32, who was in the medical infirmary of the jail, reportedly hanged himself in his cell with a bed sheet on Feb. 13.
He was found by detention officers shortly after 7 p.m.

Deputies immediately called for medical personnel, who began CPR and medical intervention until EMS with the Houston Fire Department took over medical procedures.
Young was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine his cause of death.
As with all in custody deaths, this incident is being thoroughly investigated for violations of policy and law. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit, the Office of Inspector General Bureau and the Internal Affairs Division are conducting simultaneous investigations.
In addition to the sheriff's office extensive internal investigation, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office will conduct a thorough review of its findings and present them to a Harris County grand jury.
