1. Heights & Co. Patio & Cocktail Bar will open to the public on Thursday, May 5 in the former space of Taqo Mexican Kitchen space at the corner of Yale Street and 14th Street. The concept comes from Brian Doke, who operates Savoir and Patton's across the street. (CultureMap Houston)
2. The Obama Portraits Tour presented by Kehinde Wiley is on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, through May 30. Thursdays are the MFAH's free days when the portraits can also be seen for free. (outsmartmagazine.com)
3. Two officers inside a Houston Police Department patrol unit were involved in a major car crash caused by a suspected drunk driver on the Southwest Freeway headed outbound Sunday morning, Houston police said. Both HPD officers were transported to Memorial Hermann in Texas Medical Center. (Click2Houston)
4. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown in Spring opened for the season on April 30, according to a Facebook announcement from officials. The theme park features of number of aquatic activities, including water slides, tube slides, boogie-board surfing, a wave pool, a lazy river and an interactive tree house. 5. Remains found during a search in December in North Harris County belonged to missing Houston woman Taylor Pomaski, officials confirmed Saturday. The 29-year-old woman vanished on April 25, 2021, after a party at her home in Spring. Witnesses reported that Pomaski and her then-boyfriend, former NFL tight end Kevin Ware Jr., got into a "violent fight" in front of their guests. A cause of death has not been reported. - Houston SPCA recently received a Healing Heartworm grant from BISSELL Pet Foundation to support the treatment of heartworm-positive dogs at Houston SPCA. Heartworm treatment can be costly and this award will help the organization begin treating dogs while they wait to be adopted. (Facebook)
- A 51-year-old woman pleaded guilty in connection to the crash that killed a grandfather who was driving home with his three grandchildren. The crash happened at around 2 a.m. on August 5, 2021, on US-59 inbound at Greens Road. (ABC 13)
- Students from three Houston Independent School District high schools are members of the first group of 2022 National Merit Scholarship winners. (Houston ISD)
