Houston Hosting 9th Annual Back 2 School Fest Aug. 3 At GRB

Houston's needy students will receive free school supplies, back packs and immunizations at the GRB on Aug. 3, officials announced.

HOUSTON, TX — Mayor Sylvester Turner and the City of Houston will be providing free school supplies and free immunizations to Houston area students at the Mayor's 9th Annual Back 2 School Fest. The event takes place at the George R. Brown Convention Center on Saturday, Aug. 3.

The annual event, which was launched in 2010, is presented by Shell Oil Company and is designed to help economically disadvantaged Houston area elementary school students and their families as they prepare to return to school.

Turner said the program, which is only possible through the help of community partnerships and sponsors, provides elementary school students in underprivileged areas with the tools to start the school year successfully.
