Houston Man Killed During High-Speed Chase With Police

A Houston man wanted on felony assault warrants, was killed when he crashed into a light pole, police said.

HOUSTON, TX — A man who police said was wanted on a felony warrant for assault, was killed Friday morning during a high-speed crash as he tried to evade police. The crash happened shortly after midnight near the intersection of Westheimer Boulevard and Synot Road.

Police said they were staking out the man's home in southwest Houston, so they could arrest him on outstanding assault warrants.

The man, whose name has not been released, apparently saw the officers as he returned home, and ran from officers, police said.

The man was traveling at more than 100 miles per hour, when he lost control and smashed into a light pole, police said.

The man, who was pinned inside his car, died at the scene, police said.

"His actions led to his death," said HPD Asst. Chief Bobby Dobbins.

The crash remains under investigation.
