HOUSTON, TX — Houston police officers shot a man accused of carjacking and killing a construction worker, stabbing an apartment complex manager and charging at officers with a knife early Tuesday near Buffalo Bayou Park, Police Chief Troy Finner said.

The shooting occurred at the Hanover Autry Park apartment complex at 811 Buffalo Park Drive, which is under construction but already partially occupied.

Just before 3:30 a.m., the suspect carjacked the truck of a construction worker watching the property overnight. As the worker walked away and toward the complex's office, the suspect ran him over, killing him, and crashed through glass into the lobby, Finner said.

A concierge retreated into an office and locked himself in when the suspect charged him with a knife. The suspect got back in the truck and crashed through the office to reach the concierge, but the concierge was not hurt in the incident.

A manager confronted the suspect and was stabbed in the back. The manager was later taken to a hospital to be treated for multiple stab wounds and is in stable condition, according to authorities.

Officers confronted the man when they arrived at the complex and told him to drop his knife. After ignoring multiple orders to drop the weapon, the suspect charged the officers with the knife, police said. Two officers shot him, and the suspect suffered "at least two" gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital and was in surgery, Finner said.

Police said the suspect did not have identification, and HPD is working to learn who he is.

The two officers will be placed on administrative leave under HPD policy. Internal affairs will conduct an investigation in addition to the criminal investigation into the incident.

Finner called it an "isolated incident" and said there was no additional threat to the apartment complex or the area.
