Houston Texans Andre Hal Diagnosed With Cancer

Houston Texans Safety Andre Hal received a preliminary diagnosis of Hodgkins Lymphoma

HOUSTON, TX — Houston Texans safety Andre Hal has received a preliminary diagnosis of Hodgkins Lymphoma fro team doctors and advised to seek treatment options.

Hal said he will seek further consultation with physicians at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and will undergo testing and evaluation as well as discuss his treatment options.

“My faith in God and the support from my family, friends, teammates and coaches will see me through this difficult time. I will not let this diagnosis stop me from fulfilling my dreams and I do not want anyone to feel sorry for me. I know how to beat this and I will beat it," Hal said in a statement.

Hal is the second Houston Texan to be diagnosed with cancer in the last four years.

In 2014, rookie offensive tackle David Quessenberry who was participating in mini camp at the time was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins T-cell Lymphoma

Hal, who was drafted in the seventh round in 2014, has played in 38 games as a Houston Texan, 176 career combined tackles, 124 total tackles and nine interceptions.

The news of this diagnosis brought well wishes from teammates and coaches including superstar J.J. Watt, and head coach Bill O'Brien.

Texans owner Bob McNair added his well wishes on behalf of the McNair family and the Texans organization, "We are saddened to learn of Andre's diagnosis. Andre is tough and faithful and we believe he is prepared to win this fight. The McNair family as well as the entire Texans organization will continue to be there for him, love and support him, and pray for his recovery."

It is likely that Hal will be added to the PUP — Physically Unable to Perform-Non Football Injury list for the 2018 season.
