HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Police Department expects to help thousands of Houston area families during the 33rd Annual Comida Food Drive happening this weekend.

Volunteers from Houston area inner-city churches have been working with police volunteers this week to pack boxes of non-perishable food items to feed a family of four.

The Comida Food Drive has been a holiday fixture in Houston since December 1985 when Houston Police officers responding to a call for service came upon a family who had nothing to eat.

Since then, the Houston Police Department has worked with Fiesta Mart and Pepsi to collect food so that no one goes hungry during the holidays.

The families are identified through local churches, who along with Fiesta Mart, help with the food collection.
