Man Kills Self In Heights Apartment Barricade: Police
A suicidal man who held SWAT officers at bay for several hours took his own life in a Heights apartment on Tuesday.
HOUSTON — An armed man who police described as suicidal, took his own life during a standoff with Houston Police SWAT officers Tuesday afternoon. According to a tweet from Houston police, HPD and HFD physicians who were at the scene tried to help the man, but he died at the scene.
Houston Police SWAT officers were called to an apartment in the 600 block of Heights Boulevard at West 6th Street shortly after 12:45 p.m.
The incident began at about 10:15 a.m. as a welfare check for a man inside the home. When police arrived, the man barricaded himself inside, police said

HPD SWAT and hostage negotiatiors are heading to a residence in the 600 block of Heights Blvd. where an armed, suicidal male is barricaded. Officers initially responded to this address at 10:15 a.m. for a welfare check with the male. A PIO is also enroute. #hounews

Hostage negotiators tried unsuccessfully to lure the man outside, and at about 2 p.m. the standoff ended when the unidentified man took his own life.
