1. Astros SS Carlos Correa has signed a 3-year deal with the Minnesota Twins, totaling $105.3 million, with a yearly payout of $35 million, making his salary the fourth highest in Major League Baseball. The deal is still pending and if approved, Correa’s time with Houston will end. (Click2Houston)
2. The family of Doran Kelly, the man who was gunned down in his office Wednesday afternoon, is trying to understand what happened. Kelly was a supervisor at Cedar Gate Technologies for seven years. The 48-year-old was allegedly shot and killed by Montavious Wright, an employee. (ABC 13)
3. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner criticized the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) approval of an amendment to the Texas General Land Office State Action Plan as a sanctioning of "discrimination." Additionally, U.S. Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee, Al Green and Sylvia Garcia on Saturday called for Justice Department intervention, citing discrimination against the Houston residents if any aid is spent under the current distribution system. 4. Misha's, a Los Angeles-based company that makes what they claim is "the best dairy-free cheese on the market," is planning to make waves at Houston Central Market. Flavors will include Lox, French Connection, Smoked Cheddar, Sari, Seven Point Five, and Black Truffle. (CultureMap Houston)
5. Dmitriy Kozhushanova, co-owner of Dance Life Houston, and his wife, Yuliya, are working to raise money to help get Ukrainian orphans to safety. Dance Life Houston will host free group dance lessons on Thursdays at 8 p.m. and Fridays at 7 p.m. Lessons are free with a donation of at least $1, and all the money from sales on those days will be donated to help refugees.
