Kailee Mills Teams With Clear Channel On Billboard Campaign

The Harris County Sheriff's Office, the Kailee Mills Foundation, and Clear Channel Outdoor have launched a new traffic safety initiative.

HOUSTON — The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the Kailee Mills Foundation, and Clear Channel Outdoor have launched a traffic safety initiative to encourage teens to buckle up before they get on the road. The Clear Channel Outdoor digital billboard campaign is especially timely as teens head into holiday vacation time.

The foundation is named in honor of Kailee Mills, a 16-year-old Klein Collins High School student who was tragically killed in a single car crash in October 2017 when she unbuckled her seat belt to take a back seat selfie with friends.

In the months after Kailee's death, her parents, David and Wendy Mills, launched the foundation to inform the public about the importance of seat belt use.

This year, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the foundation to conduct student seat belt checks at high schools across the county.

Clear Channel Outdoor is launching the latest phase of the initiative by placing prominent messages on 10 digital billboards in Harris County and 16 more in the surrounding region.

The message will also appear on Clear Channel billboards in San Antonio, Dallas and El Paso. Through the Outdoor Advertising Association of Texas (OAAT) the message will be displayed in another 26 Texas cities.

“It is our sincere hope that this message displayed on digital billboards along our Texas roadways will remind motorists how important it is to buckle up when traveling during the holiday season and beyond. This message will reach millions of Texas drivers over the next few months,” said Lee Vela, president of the Outdoor Advertising Association of Texas.

So far this year, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office has investigated 111 traffic fatalities. Thirty-three of those killed were not wearing seat belts.
