Listeria Concerns Prompt Salad Recall In Texas

Salads sold by Dole, in stores like Kroger, have been recalled due to Listeria concerns.

HOUSTON, TX — Dole salad products have been recalled in Texas and other states.

Salads made by Dole and sold at grocery chains like Kroger are being recalled due to Listeria concerns, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said. The Dole outbreak has led to 12 confirmed hospitalizations across 13 states. Two people have died during the outbreak.

Shoppers at Texas' most famous grocery store shouldn't worry about their produce, according to H-E-B.

What is Listeria?

Symptoms of listeriosis, as the infection is called, include fever, muscle aches, headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions and diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, still births or premature delivery, CDC officials said.

Anyone in the high risk categories who experiences flu-like symptoms after eating possibly contaminated food should seek medical care and tell their doctors about eating the contaminated food. The infection can be treated with antibiotics.
