Over 125,000 Lost Power Due To High Winds In Houston Thursday
CenterPoint Energy crews are working to end outages caused by downed power lines.
HOUSTON, TX — Over 125,000 customers were left without power in the Houston area as high winds caused outages across Harris County on Thursday.
CenterPoint Energy had restored power to all but around 15,000 residents by late Thursday night.
Houston inside Beltway 8 and north Harris County were the most affected by loss of power, but outages were widespread throughout the county, according to CenterPoint Energy's outage tracker map, which showed over 125,000 customers without power at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

CenterPoint Energy crews are working to end the outages, and the company warned people on social media not to get near downed power lines, giving at least a berth of 10 feet. CenterPoint also said customers don't need to report outages and asked that phone calls be limited to emergencies.

Harris County was under a wind advisory until 7 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Northwest winds battered the Houston area between 20 to 30 mph and reached gusts over 40 mph.
