Services Held For HPD Hurricane Harvey Hero
Funeral Services for Officer Norberto Ramon, who saved countless lives during Hurricane Harvey, died of cancer on June 15.
CHANNELVIEW, TX — A beloved Houston Police officer who braved the flood waters of Hurricane Harvey to rescue Houstonians as he battled cancer, will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on Thursday.
Senior Police Officer Norberto "Bert" Ramon, who served nearly 25-years with HPD, died June 15 after a fierce battle with liver cancer.

Ramon, 56, was among many local law enforcement officers who manned rescue boats and donned life jackets while wading into the rising flood waters of Hurricane Harvey in August 2017.
He was recognized for his valiant efforts and received numerous accolades for the countless rescues he made while navigating flood waters.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo expressed his condolences to the family, and honored the man who was hard at work serving the city until just days before his death.
"When a person has a heart like he did...when you have a heart for service, there's no where you'd rather be that out making a difference," Acevedo said in a statement on June 15.

Ramon, who his family called an avid fisherman, was a native of San Antonio and a graduate of Kennedy High School and the University of Texas-San Antonio.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Guadalupe Ramon and sister, Diana Ramon, and is survived by his wife Cynthia Ramon and combined family of three sons: Greg Medina, Dustin Medina and Joshua Ramon; three grandchildren, Madison, Carter, and Reed; his father Alex A. Ramon Sr. and brother, Alex A. Ramon Jr. and wife, Drucilla.
Visitation was held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the River Pointe Church, followed by a brief service.
A second visitation will be held at the Porter Loring Chapel, located at 1101 McCullough Avenue in San Antonio.
The visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 27, beginning at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 7 p.m.
A Catholic Mass will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 11:30 a.m., at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, 1147 Cupples Road in San Antonio, followed by internment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
