Shooter On The Run After Firing At Police

Police are looking for a young Asian or Hispanic man who shot at police before fleeing in a black Ford pickup.

HOUSTON, TX — Police are searching for a man who was involved in a shootout with police at a southwest Houston gas station on Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting happened at a Citgo gas station at the intersection of Wilcrest Drive and Beechnut Street.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said the plainclothes officers were responding in the area to a medical emergency at a Walgreens across the street when they heard gunfire.

The plainclothes officer, who Acevedo said was a member of HPD's Westside Tactical Team, ran toward the man, who began firing at the officer.

"The officer, fearing for his life, discharged one round," Acevedo said.

As per protocol, the officer, who was not identified, will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

When the officer fired, the man ducked into the passenger seat of a black Ford F-150 pickup and sped off.

Police are looking for a young Asian or Hispanic man, who with black hair and wearing a flannel shirt, who was believed to between 20 and 30 years old.

Police K9 and helicopters are searching the area.
