Subfreezing Temperatures Expected In Houston Friday
With a winter storm warning in south Texas, there's a small chance parts of the Greater Houston area could get patches of sleet.
HOUSTON, TX — Following a cold front that swept through the Houston area Wednesday night, subfreezing temperatures are expected in Houston early Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
It's also possible, though unlikely, that small portions of the Greater Houston area could experience patches of sleet or freezing rain Thursday evening. A winter storm warning has been issued for much of south Texas, while the San Antonio and Austin areas are under a winter storm watch. Temperatures are expected to be above freezing when precipitation reaches the Houston area, according to the National Weather Service.
NWS issued a special weather statement Thursday morning concerning the risk of wintry mix precipitation until 10 a.m. Friday. The main areas of concern are south of Interstate 10, with risk increasing south toward the Matagorda Bay area.

At the very least, cold rain is expected Thursday afternoon into Friday in Houston with the Accuweather forecast showing moderate to high rain chances between 1 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday. Friday's low is expected to be 31 degrees.
It's also expected to be chilly next week as the forecast calls for high temperatures mostly in the 50s.
