Texas Man Killed After Lighting Firework On Head: Police
A man from San Antonio was killed after he lit a firework on top of his head and it exploded from the bottom.

SAN ANTONIO, TX — A San Antonio man was killed in a fireworks accident early Tuesday after he lit one on top of his head, a San Antonio Police Department spokesperson confirmed to Patch.
The accident occurred just after midnight in the 800 block of Harriman Place. The man had been drinking with another person when he lit a "mortar-style firework" on top of his head. The firework exploded from the bottom of the tube, piercing the man's head, according to police.
The man was unresponsive with brain matter protruding from his skull. Emergency personnel attempted to treat the man on site, but he later died, authorities said.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as 43-year-old Pablo Ruiz.

Fireworks also were the likely cause of a fire that engulfed two houses on the northwest side of the city overnight Monday, according to KENS 5. The blaze caused heavy damage in both homes.
Shooting fireworks in the city limits is illegal and carries a fine up to $2,000.
