1. Goodnight Hospitality is opening the Marigold Club in Goodnight Charlie’s Former Space with a planned opening this fall due to pandemic-related delays. Chef Austin Waiter will lead as Marigold’s executive chef. (Eater Houston)
2. An innocent man died after police say his car was struck by a suspect vehicle during a chase in west Houston on early Monday. Houston police added that an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle at a gas station at Richmond and approached the car, leading to a chase when the car fled. Witnesses say the suspect vehicle ran a red light when it collided with the innocent driver. (KHOU 11)
3. The Houston Texans are expected to name Lovie Smith as its next head coach, according to NFL sources. He was head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2004-2012, leading them to the Super Bowl following the 2006 season before ultimately losing to the Indianapolis Colts. (Fox 26 Houston)
4. Thick, black smoke coming from the southeast side of Houston had drivers wondering what was going on Monday morning. The fire was coming from a Valero Houston refinery flare. Valero said that it doesn't anticipate any impacts to the community. (ABC 13)
5. Ten of Tim Hortons' popular Canadian coffee and bakery shops are expected to open in Houston in the next three years, according to an announcement. Ali and Emad Lakhany, a pair of Houston-area brothers who own and operate 63 Popeyes Louisiana Chicken restaurants across Texas, plan to open and operate the Tim Hortons restaurants. (CW 39)
