Tornadoes, Severe Thunderstorms Wash Out Halloween

The rain came and damped yet another holiday for the Houston area, as storms and tornadoes quashed Halloween 2018.

HOUSTON, TX — A wave of severe storms that moved through southeast Texas on Wednesday night spawned several tornadoes in the Houston area. Several funnel clouds were reported Wednesday evening, with one tornado touching down in Eagle Lake near Fort Bend County.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch until 10 p.m. for most of the Houston region. Another tornado watch was issued for Brazoria, Chambers and Galveston counties until 11 p.m.

The storms created high wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour in some areas, and some residents reported golf ball sized hail.

The storms also sparked flash flooding in areas of Houston and virtually washed out any chance some children had of scoring any treats on Halloween night.

The rain moved out in the overnight hours and dropped temperatures into the 50s for the Thursday morning commute. Highs will be in the 60s on Thursday, and wake up temps drop into the 40s for Friday.
