Traffic Stop Leads To Discovery of 228 Pounds Of Marijuana: Cops

A speeding driver on the Gulf Freeway led to the discovery of more than 200 pounds of pot and THC-laced candies, police said

PASADENA, TX — A traffic stop for speeding led to the arrest of a man and the discovery of more than 200 pounds of marijuana and THC-laced candies, according to the Precinct 8 Constables Office.

The traffic stop happened at about 5:30 p.m. Monday in the 1300 block of the Gulf Freeway. According to the deputy constable, he could smell marijuana inside the vehicle as he spoke with the driver.

When the deputy asked for consent to search the vehicle, the driver said no. The deputy, who is partnered with a K9 officer, conducted a search around the outside of the car with the K9, which is trained to detect narcotics.

The K9 conducting a “free air sniff” around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of marijuana. The driver was detained so a probable cause search warrant could be brought to the scene to search the inside of the vehicle.

Deputies searched the vehicle and discovered 14 pounds of marijuana, THC candies and a loaded handgun.

The search led deputies to a second vehicle that was used to transport more than 150 pounds of marijuana, THC candies and cash.

Investigators recovered:

  • 228 pounds of marijuana
  • 70 pounds of THC candies
  • 4 handguns
  • $42,625 cash

The case remains under investigation and more arrests are possible, police said.
