TX Weather: Severe Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, Flooding Possible

Severe weather is possible in large portions of the state, including Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas-Fort Worth.

HOUSTON, TX — Large portions of Texas are bracing for the possibility of severe weather from Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning.

Severe weather is likely to impact the central, northern and southeastern parts of the state, with the Houston, Austin and Waco areas under an enhanced threat of severe weather, according to the National Weather Service.

The area of enhanced risk stretches nearly to San Antonio and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and can include severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, large hail and the possibility of tornadoes. Hail could exceed two inches in some areas. The storms will likely occur between 3 p.m. Monday and 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to forecasters.

The cities of San Antonio and the Dallas are in areas deemed slight risk but still could see the effects of severe weather, according to NWS.

Flash flooding from heavy rainfall also is possible, and the National Weather Service issued a flood watch for a large portion of east and southeastern Texas, including Houston. The watch covers both inland and coastal Harris County as well as Grimes, Houston, Madison, Montgomery, Liberty, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker and Waller counties.

Heavy rainfall is likely in large portions of the state with 2 to 4 inches expected in the Houston area and 1 to 3 inches in expected in and south of Dallas. Isolated areas could have even more rainfall, according to NWS.
