2. More COVID-19 protocols and parking changes are coming to Houston's Downtown Courthouse Complex starting on Monday, February 7th. Visitors and employees entering the Jury Plaza must now wear an N95 mask provided by the county and parking is available at the 1401 Congress St. Garage. (CW39)
3. Gasoline prices in Houston and across the country rose last week as markets rallied, pushing crude oil prices beyond 7-year highs. Prices in Houston are 13 cents higher than a month ago and 85 cents higher than a year ago. Geopolitical tensions with Russia are partly to blame for the spike. (Houston Chronicle)
4. An investigation is underway after Houston firefighters extinguished a 2-alarm church fire that happened Monday morning in downtown Houston at the old Co-Cathedral church building. No one was injured in the fire. (KHOU 11)
5. A man in a "wobbly wheel" scam is still on the run after targeting another man in October of 2021 at a Kroger parking lot on FM 1960, according to documents. After a similar incident on Thursday, deputies said they identified the suspect in the scam as Paul Yonko. The suspect has two outstanding warrants for engaging in organized crime and failing to identify to police, according to deputies. (ABC 13)
From our sponsor:
Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.
Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
