Woman Crashes Into 18-Wheeler While Evading Police

Police said a woman driving in excess of 80 miles per hour crashed into the side of an 18-wheeler on Tuesday morning.

HOUSTON — A woman was critically injured Tuesday morning after she crashed her car into the side of an 18-wheeler during a police chase. The crash happened at Almeda Road and W. Orem Road. Officers said they spotted the woman just before 5 a.m. driving south on State Highway 288.

Police said the woman was traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour, and that she refused to stop when they tried to pull her over. The officer lost sight of the car when the driver exited SH 288 at W. Orem Street.

Police said the officer exited at W. Orem Street and came upon the crash a block west of SH 288. Investigators said the woman ran a red light at Orem and Almeda, and smashed into the Semi-trailer

The woman, who was pinned inside the car, was taken to an area hospital in unknown condition.

The road is expected to be closed several hours while the investigation into the crash continues.
