- Drivers in Irving should expect major delays this week on State Highway 183. The Texas Department of Transportation will fully close east and westbound highway 183 from Spur 482 to Maryland Drive from 10 p.m. on Sept. 23-24 at 5 a.m. The agency urges motorists to use caution in the work zone. - A video has revealed the moment a Dallas Fire-Rescue employee kicked a man in the face. Kyle Vess was walking down Lone Star Drive in West Dallas on Aug. 8, 2019 when a Dallas Fire-Rescue employee, Brad Cox, confronted Vess and accused him of lighting a grass fire on the side of the road. Cox and other DFR employees detained Vess and allegedly used excessive force while waiting for the police to arrive. (Dallas Observer)
- A Dallas trash collection crew was attacked and a worker was killed in a carjacking while collecting garbage at an apartment complex in west Oak Cliff. Police said a group of men shot one of the workers and pistol whipped another, and a third worker was able to get away unharmed. The carjackers drove off in the workers’ pickup truck, which was loaded down with bags of trash. (FOX 4 Dallas)
- Four Dallas-area campuses received National Blue Ribbon School honors Tuesday. The schools, among 26 receiving the status in Texas, were Dallas ISD’s Trinidad “Trini” Garza Early College High School at Mountain View and Kathlyn Joy Gilliam Collegiate Academy; Mesquite ISD’s Porter Elementary School; and Christ the King Catholic School in Dallas. The four local campuses are among 302 public and 23 private schools honored across the U.S. on Tuesday. (dallasnews.com)
- A second victim has died after a weekend Deep Ellum shooting. Dallas police have not released the name of the 19-year-old victim. The four other people shot were all women ages 15 to 30, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. (FOX 4 Dallas)
